Relive the terror, wonder, and thrills that Michael Crichton's classic novel gave you two decades ago. What I am working on here is a complete rewrite of the original story, revised and updated for scientific accuracy, and with all new scenes, characters, and dinosaurs. There are a number of other changes to the novel as well, which will be listed in the "Differences" section as they pop up in the story. The only differences I will list here is that the story is set in 2012 (the time of writing), instead of 1989, and that it will contain some elements of the movie as well as the book. Please note that I want it to have the length and feel of the original novel, so it may take me as much as half a year to complete. Enjoy!

Prologue: The Land Reborn
He sat on the bench, and bit into his sandwich. It seemed tasteless to him, he had other things on his mind. He felt a certain anxiety that he couldn't explain. He felt as if he were knocking on Death's door, even though there weren't any obvious dangers surrounding him. Suddenly, he didn't feel hungry, and left his sandwich on the bench as he got up and started to walk away. I'll take a stroll in the jungle, he thought. That should get my mind off things. He walked down the concrete path, hearing, but not necessarily listening to, the conversations of the other people around him. They all wore white hats, with a blue dinosaur logo on it. He sighed, and continued walking.
The ferns of the jungle brushed his knees as he moved under the trees, occasionally looking up at them and marvelling at their height. He heard the chirping of birds, along with the bellows of large, unseen creatures in the far distance. These eerie cries, along with the other sights and sounds of the forest, made him feel as though he were stepping into another world, perhaps a world that was once our own a very, very long time ago. And in a way, he was, or was at least extremely close to that world. Suddenly, he heard a rustling in the nearby bushes. He started to run, hearing the footsteps of something large, yet very agile and light on its feet. With a shriek of attack, a shriek that pierced the man's very soul with fear, the thing grasped for him with bony fingers tipped by long, sharp claws. The man fell to the ground as a sudden weight struck his back. He tasted blood. He stared into the cold, inhuman eyes of the murderer. He felt the jaws of death penetrate his body. And then...all he saw was black.
